Athletes and their families are increasingly aware of how important it is to combine their sports careers with university education. Pursuing their studies does not only mean that they'll be better prepared for the future, but it also enables them to positively face the reality of present setbacks and difficulties that are part and parcel of any career in sports. A good education is no doubt the best investment for their future.
For this reason, Universidad Isabel I has provided a way for our high-level athletes to combine sport and studies through the UNARD Programme (University High Performance Sports).
What is the University High Performance Sports Programme (UNARD)?
The UNARD Programme is designed to support the training of athletes, coaches, physiotherapists and other sports team members by facilitating compatibility between their sports training and education at university level.
What are the benefits of being in the UNARD Programme?
Through this programme, Universidad Isabel I offers very favourable conditions for athletes during the academic year, as well as individual tutoring regarding their studies.
Acknowledging time limitations and the demands of sports commitments, the programme is based on the following principles:
- Flexibility and adaptation: flexible schedule, assessment, tailor-made registration, and adaptation of teachers’ work, methods and exam dates to fit the athlete’s needs.
- Academic tutor: an expert not only in sport performance but also on our online studies and methodology. They will provide advice on academic and administrative matters within the university. Tutors will establish a dialogue with teachers to enhance learning, and will guide athletes throughout their studies at our university.
- Recognition of credits for sports activities.
